You can make a contribution to the Red Cross without ever having to touch your checkbook. The local Red Cross is looking for volunteer office staff for its Cadz Street location. The office is losing one of it’s AARP-funded receptionists as of April 13. If one or more replacements are not found, the office will not be able to maintain its current hours. Katherine Correll, executive director of the Upper Palmetto Chapter of the Red Cross, said fewer office hours would not effect the services the Red Cross provides.
“But we do like to have an office open during the week to make sure the community has a local place to go,” Correll said. “Our volunteers are the foundation of our organization and without them we would not be able to care for disaster victims, provide like-saving training, save lives through blood donation or serve our Armed Forces. Anyone who can volunteer a few hours a week to answering phones and keeping watch over the office can call 803-329-6575 or 581-4820.
