About 80 people across the City of Chester set out on a mission this past Saturday. Their goal was to help beautify Chester.
The cleanup effort was sponsored by the Chester Downtown Development Association. Volunteers descended on the city to give it a spring cleaning and collected several bags of trash from the sides of the streets and sidewalks.
The volunteer effort was made by children and adults, from all walks of society. Volunteers assembled in the Food Lion parking lot early Saturday morning, and were kept going by donations of ice cream cones from McDonald’s, appetizers from KJ’z Wings and were treated to an after party, courtesy of The Summit Restaurant.
Event organizer Carrie Brantley said the clean up was so successful that volunteers have decided they will hold one in the spring and one in the fall, with a special emphasis on beautifying the town right before HILLarity.
