Al Reid, manager of PPG’s fiber glass manufacturing facility in Chester, S.C., has been elected chair of the Manufacturing Steering Committee of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
As chair, he will work closely with the chamber staff, steering committee members and other chamber members on state and national manufacturing issues. He will also serve as a member of the chamber’s board of directors. The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce represents more than 18,000 businesses across the state.
Reid is very familiar with the goals and objectives of the chamber and its Manufacturing Steering Committee. In 2011, the statewide organization named PPG’s Chester facility “Manufacturer of the Year” in its small business category. “This is a great opportunity for PPG,” Reid said. “It allows us to ‘be at the table’ for issues that affect us, such as work force readiness. In addition, it reinforces that PPG is an important part of South Carolina’s manufacturing base and that we provide good jobs that support our economy. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Reid will begin his two-year term shortly.
