Chester County, SC — March 26th, 2026

IKO officially celebrated the grand opening of its new fiberglass manufacturing facility and glass mat production plant on March 25, 2026, marking a transformative investment in Chester County and the region’s growing manufacturing sector.

The project represents a capital investment of more than $500 million and stands as one of the largest Canadian foreign direct investments in South Carolina’s history. Located off Highway 9 at the site of the former PPG facility, the development brings new life to an existing industrial property while reinforcing Chester County’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing.

Together, the two state-of-the-art facilities are expected to create approximately 200–250 new jobs, offering long-term career opportunities and contributing to sustained economic growth in the community.

The fiberglass plant and adjacent glass mat facility are designed to work in tandem, strengthening IKO’s vertically integrated manufacturing process. Glass mat, a key material used in asphalt shingle production, will be produced on-site and distributed across IKO’s North American network, improving efficiency, product quality, and supply chain reliability.

Leadership from IKO, along with state and local officials, gathered to commemorate the milestone and recognize the collaboration that made the project possible. Attendees included Pamela Evette, representatives from the offices of Tim Scott and Ralph Norman, as well as regional and international partners.

During the event, guests had the opportunity to tour both facilities and experience the full manufacturing process, from raw fiberglass production to finished glass mat, highlighting the scale and innovation of the operation.

This investment reflects IKO’s long-term commitment to both the U.S. market and the Chester County community. As a family-owned company with a global presence, IKO continues to expand its footprint while investing in workforce development and sustainable growth.

Local leaders emphasized the significance of the project, noting that it not only brings high-quality jobs to the area but also strengthens the county’s economic foundation for years to come.

The grand opening marks a major milestone for Chester County, showcasing the power of strategic investment, strong partnerships, and continued economic momentum in the region.
